 Welcome to Paws-a-While

Dedicated to making a difference in the lives of animals.

We believe that every pet deserves a loving home and a chance at a happy life. That’s why we focus on pet adoptions, encouraging the adoption of rescued and shelter pets who are in need of a second chance.

Paws-a-While prides ourselves on working with, supporting, endorsing and promoting only ethically run organisations and businesses.

A community united for animals.

Our mission is simple: fewer homeless pets, fewer cases of cruelty, and more happy homes.

Paws-a-While began in 2021 as a small but powerful event to raise awareness around the urgent need for pet sterilisation. Today, we’re a growing, passionate community dedicated to promoting pet adoptions, supporting ethical animal welfare organisations, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership.

Each month, we host vibrant, pet-friendly events on the Sea Point Promenade, bringing together over 20 welfare organisations and trusted pet care brands. With over 600 successful adoptions and countless lives changed, Paws-a-While is more than an event—it’s a movement.

Sterilise to save lives.

Sterilisation isn’t just medical—it’s meaningful. It’s prevention with purpose.

Paws in Prevention (PIP) is our sterilisation advocacy campaign under the Paws-a-While umbrella. Pet overpopulation is a root cause of suffering—so we act before it starts. Through sterilisation education and large-scale spay/neuter drives, we’re breaking the cycle of unwanted litters and reducing the number of animals at risk.

Thanks to generous donors, welfare grants, and support from the City of Cape Town, PIP has helped fund hundreds of sterilisations in communities like Lavender Hill. Each procedure means fewer strays, healthier pets, and brighter futures.

Collaborating for greater impact.

Together, we are stronger. Together, we are CAWF.

Paws-a-While is proud to be a member of the Cape Animal Welfare Forum (CAWF)—a unified body of animal welfare organisations across Cape Town. Formed in 2012 with the support of the City of Cape Town, CAWF helps its members work smarter, together, by sharing resources, planning joint campaigns, and speaking with one voice for the voiceless.

As a CAWF member, we collaborate regularly with fellow organisations to tackle issues like sterilisation, education, and access to veterinary care—especially in underserved communities. This partnership strengthens our impact and brings greater consistency to animal welfare efforts citywide.
